Adobe Reader is free software that lets you view and print Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF) documents and fill in Adobe PDF forms. From within Adobe Reader, you can start an e-mail application and attach PDF documents, as well as validate digital signatures contained in PDF documents.

AVG Free provides the bare necessities when it comes to security, but that should be enough for savvy Windows users.
The interface is nearly unchanged from the last version, and generally it's easy to use. From the main window, though, you must double-click to get further information on any feature, whether virus scanning, LinkScanner settings, or updating. Streamlining this to one click would be helpful. A scheduling utility automates both scans and updates, while the upgrade ad at the screen's bottom can be easily hidden using the Hide Notification button. When starting a scan, a slider makes it easy to jump between Slow, Automatic, and Fast scans: the faster the scan, the less comprehensive it is, so users should take advantage of the scan optimization that is recommended during installation to speed up that first scan. A progress meter for regular scans would've been useful, though. Should a virus create serious problems, AVG creates a rescue disk to scan your computer in MS-DOS mode.
The LinkScanner feature protects you from third-party code exploits before they load in your browser and for ranking search results. Annoyingly, when you install its optional toolbar, it commandeers your new-tab page, decidedly inappropriate behavior. The program doesn't obviously tax your system when scanning or when running in the background, although CNET Labs determined that it will significantly slow down your system's boot time, and slightly delay shutting down. AVG also detected some image files as threats, when two other scans decided they weren't--we decided these were false positives. AVG might not be the fastest or the most effective free security option, but it still gets the job done and you're better off with it.

free i3D Photo 3.4
You can create 3D images without any special camera equipment with i3d Photo. Unfortunately, its design never let us find a comfort zone that made it feel it was worth all the effort it takes to use it.
The program's interface is a mixed bag. The excellent layout breaks a complex task down into a short series of user-friendly command buttons. However, the program's online tutorial is pretty vague, and we had to do a lot of learning for ourselves. The end product was supposed to look like a 3D movie when you aren't wearing 3D glasses: multicolored and slightly blurry. This requires you to create something called a "Stereo Image" in which a single photo is divided into two mirror images. The program layers the photos one on top of the other to create the three-dimensional image. However, the resulting image didn't look like the examples it provides. It was hardly blurred and didn't seem like it would appear to be three-dimensional in 3D glasses. We attempted to alter the image using the program's cropping and color-adjustment features, but we still didn't find it satisfactory. The program left us feeling unsuccessful and unsure on how to make a proper 3D photo.
This is a free program. It installs desktop icons without permission. While its layout looked promising, we were unable to successfully create a 3D picture. We do not recommend i3d Photo.

3D Graph Generator 2.6
Swan Studios' 3D Graph Generator is an innovative program for creating animated three-dimensional graphs. Used responsibly, this software makes memorable and informative graphs that will give your presentations a professional appeal. If you're not careful, though, you'll need to pass out motion sickness bags at your next sales meeting.
The program's interface is fairly intuitive, although the Options menu, where the graph configuration takes place, is a bit confusing at first glance. The built-in Help file is brief but adequate. The program's sample data gives an immediate look at what's in store, and we quickly regretted eating dinner immediately before trying it out. The 3D graph looks cool and plays intense, trance-like music, but it also rotates. Quickly. Way too quickly to be of any use, other than as an emetic. Fortunately, you can adjust the speed of the rotation or turn it off entirely, which makes things much easier to look at. We also like the capability to import data to create graphs. While the program is easy to use, overall it feels rather gimmicky. The graphs may look cool, but they're distracting and hard to understand. It probably wouldn't be our first choice for presenting data in the best possible light.
3D Graph Generator has a 30-day trial period. It comes as a zip file and installs desktop icons without asking, but it uninstalls cleanly.
